What is the Best Breakfast to Eat?

I don’t often eat breakfast but if I do it’s always rich in protein.

On most days though I don’t eat until after midday or 1pm. I’m often not hungry, and I find fasting also supports my body.

Fasting has many health benefits but it’s not suitable for everyone.

There are usually two main reasons I’ll choose to eat breakfast.

The main reason is to support my hormonal health through my monthly cycle. I tend to eat a small breakfast every day for about 7 days before my period.

Female bodies need more glucose to make progesterone during that phase of their cycle so it’s a light breakfast for me, and some ‘smart carbs’ during the day too, such as sweet potato.

If I have done a fairly intense weights session the night before or first thing in the morning, I do choose to make myself breakfast and I’m glad of it!

It would be silly to fast on these days as I want to build or maintain muscle mass, and I’m often really hungry after working with weights.

Here are some of the breakfasts I choose to eat:

  • a ham & cheese egg roll

  • scrambled egg with smoked salmon and avocado

  • an omelette filled with anything I fancy like onions, spinach & cheese

  • hard boiled eggs with olives, tomatoes & cucumber

  • plain Greek yogurt with nuts and frozen or fresh berries

But why do I want to build muscle mass?

We all lose muscle as we get older, starting around age 30.

  • The higher the amount of muscle you have on your body the better your mental cognition.

  • Higher muscle mass will burn excess sugar in your bloodstream much quicker.

  • Your bones and joints will be stronger and you’ll be less prone to injury.

  • More muscle mass helps you burn excess body fat and you feel fitter and stronger too.

  • Building and maintaining muscle is one of the single most important things you can do to slow the aging process.

All of us are growing older, there’s nothing we can do about that but we don’t have to age at the same rate as the average person.

A protein rich diet coupled with regular exercise does slow down the ageing process, so it’s a good idea to choose the best breakfast you possibly can, and keep active too.
